Gush katif Museum

Shaarei Zedek St. 5, Jerusalem

About

The Gush Katif museum in Jerusalem was founded in the month of August 2008 (Av 7768) and tells the story of the Jewish settlement in Gaza from the Hasmonean period through to our time. The museum examines the history of the Jewish settlement in Gaza over a timeline of three thousand years. It describes the establishment of the Jewish settlements following the six-day war, presents their development and achievements, and serves as a memorial to a glorious chapter in Jewish history spanning thirty-five years.

The museum displays multiple artefacts directly connected to the history of the Jewish settlement in the Gaza region. The menorah of the Netzarim synagogue, for instance — carried by the settlers on the day of their expulsion all the way to the Western Wall. It has since become a symbol. The museum has documentation of the synagogues of the Gush; a replica of a mosaic and ancient artefacts from Gaza; records of economic and agricultural enterprises; a history of the settlers’ struggles, and more.

The museum exhibits utilize a range of mediums — artistic creations, photographic displays and artefacts of historic value. There is also a library and a souvenir section, and a memorial room for those who have fallen in Israel’s wars and victims of terror from among the residents of Gush Katif.

The museum has become a warm, supportive environment for artists, writers, researchers and producers of educational and social activities connected to Gush Katif.

The museum is open for individuals, groups and educational institutions of all kinds.

The Gush Katif museum staff awaits your visit with open arms, and hopes you will become part of the touching story of Gush Katif.
